Save a shoe… Save a nose!

Did you know…?

The material your shoes are made out of is just as important as how often they are worn, when it comes to reducing foot and shoe odor?

Some of the most comfortable shoes, suede or PVC synthetic sponges (i.e. thonged beach sandals for example), are also the type of materials that best absorb sweat. This absorption can lead to creating a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria.  Materials which are less absorbent, like hard plastic or hard leather, do not absorb sweat as easily, and therefore discourage the growth of bacteria.

One of the best ways to prevent your favorite shoes from having to be thrown out prematurely, is to avoid wearing them two days in a row. Your shoes need time to air out.

Here are a few more ways keep your shoes longer and your pockets fatter!

  • Wear socks that wick moisture, like running or hiking socks.
  • Use a dryer sheet inside your shoes when you aren’t wearing them.
  • Sprinkle baking soda or deodorizing foot powder in your shoes before you wear them, and after you remove them.
  • Wash and dry your feet before wearing shoes.
